Think shooting weapons out of the bad guy's hands is just in Westerns?

California inmate shot during prison stabbing, loses thumb

Monday, January 14, 2008

(01-14) 16:28 PST Susanville, Calif. (AP) --

[An HDSP] inmate who was stabbing another prisoner had his right thumb shot off by a guard...26-year-old Diego Pimintel was stabbing another inmate in an exercise yard Monday...A tower guard with a rifle fired a single shot to end the assault, severing Pimintel's thumb......the victim was stabbed 30 times and was being treated in a Reno hospital (Full text at SFGate.com)

Rustler's Rhapsody is a 1985 Western spoof starring Tom Berenger as Rex O'Herlihan, "The Singing Cowboy," who ALWAYS shoots the guns out of the Bad Guys' hands. He even practices with targets of a hand holding a gun.

Apparently, it's not that far fetched because High Desert State Prison has a yard gunner who makes Old Rex seems plausible. If it turns out the unidentified gunner sings too...

Score 1 for the good guys but try to show some empathy for the poor one-thumbed inmate, doomed to a life of one-way hitch-hiking and the inability to review movies with hand gestures.

The criminal was just doing his job so doesn't that mean he just banked an industrial disability? It sounds like a joke but that is a Ka-ching you hear and not a ricochet (?) from the shot. Good shooting Bro but wait and see if the puke gets SSA or even a settlement for his missing butt-plug.

Yeah, and if they find a specialist to reattach it, no doubt it will be at state expense...

didn't the first shooting at KVSP involve the gunner shooting the knife out of the perps hands?

The C/O that shot him will probably get sued in civil court and end up paying the inmate for damages. Remember that thumbs are not center mass and C/O's are not trained to shoot in that manner so the department probably will not back the C/O or his actions. That poor inmate will have to go through alot of stressfull rehabilitation due to that C/O's actions. I wish the incident was on video. That would have been a really cool shooting to have witnessed. I pray everthing works out for the C/O that has to go through the shooting review.
