California inmate dies in Mississippi prison
By Andy Furillo
California's prison medical care receiver is investigating the death of an inmate who was being housed out of state in Mississippi.
"I'm told it was an asthma-related death," said receiver's spokesman Rich Kirkland.
Corrections officials identified the inmate as Robert Washington, 41, of San Joaquin County. Washington was serving seven years for vehicle theft....Washington died at the Tallahatchie County Correctional Facility in Tutwiler, Miss. The prison is owned and operated by the Corrections Corp. of America...(Full text at Sack-B)
In what may only be seen as a shot across the Governor's bow, Medical Receiver Clark Kelso says DORC cannot ship its liability out of state. The Receiver doesn't care WHERE our cons are housed: Near, far, whereEVER they are...
So, how much will oversight of medical treatment at each affected WallMart cost? It doesn't matter: the Receiver spends it and we pay it.
WallMart will still get its "rent," the inmate gets his issue...the Governor touts the cost savings of private prisons.

WHO PAYS TO SHIP THE CORPSE BACK TO CA?
All it takes is one whoooppps by these private contractors and the state looses every nickle of supposed savings on the housing of these critters, savings that are mostly an illusion in the first place.
It must be a slow day at the Bee as they are running this story 2 days in a row! Maybe they didn't get enough anti-CCPOA comments on the last run. From comments in yesterdays run (which have been deleted from todays issue) it is pretty clear that the public has no idea what the battle against private prisons and outsourcing of state work is all about, or how the big corporate owners of the private prisons are chronies of the Gov. As for the i/m dying in one, I guess medical care wasn't included in the bid (if there was one).
To Anon 7:52,
Maybe the ship it back UPS ground frieght?
A cremation would save a lot of UPS costs..... Just sayin'.....
Consider this: IF the BEE actually printed the entire story in an unbiased manner, would it sell papers? Yes it would. But does the staff at the BEE have the integrity to do so...do I have to answer.
Granted, I am a C/O and I am somewhat biased. However, I also have some understanding of the court ordered medical treatment for the inmates that the general public is not aware of. When CCA or whatever private corporation runs a for profit prison they save money by paying on labor costs. They pay a minimal amount to their "custody" staff. How is that staff motivated to provide the court ordered care for the inmates? What about when something jumps off at these corporate prisons and they call CDCR in to quell the disturbance, because their staff won't do it. Or maybe it's a matter of having to pay workmans compensation if a wally guard is injured. Money drives the equation.
You get what you pay for. C/O's didn't make the problems,(but the Bee and other rags can't see that) but we insure that the inmates get their issue.
Wow, somebody dies of asthma - happens everyday, but because it was a criminal under the control of the great state of Kalifornia it becomes a big issue. Statistics already show that incarceration lengthens lives, lifers have a greater lifespan than the general populace. But Its all the C/O's fault for mistreating the poor unvictimized and abused criminals. Seems better news than what the criminals do to society.
HOW THE HELL DID THIS HAPPEN? I WAS TOLD BY A CC1 AT MY PRISON, THAT ONLY THE INMATES IN THE BEST OF HEALTH,AND THE NON-VIOLENT, OOP'S I MEAN LESS-VIOLENT WERE GETTING SENT OUT OF STATE. BECAUSE CDCR BOSSES DON'T WANT ANY BAD P.R. IN THE NEWS PAPERS!I BET THIS IS JUST THE BEGINING OF THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The photos and the videos that which are provided in this blog is attractive.Coming to the topic it was saying that California's prison care so there is no result for that treatment. But don't bother there is so many of new treatments
