Public Safety: Man driving dump truck leads authorities on chase

EAST COUNTY: A man driving a stolen dump truck smashed into a sheriff's SUV yesterday while leading authorities on a chase...David Lee Burton, 31, of La Mesa, was arrested on suspicion of driving a stolen vehicle, evading arrest, assaulting a peace officer with a deadly weapon, driving on a suspended license and violating his parole...

The pursuit began at 3:45 p.m. on eastbound state Route 78, just east of Santa Ysabel, when a motorist called 911 to report he was following a driver who had just stolen his dump truck...[CHP & SDSO] tried to stop it just west of downtown Julian, but the driver rammed the front of a sheriff's patrol SUV that had tried to stop him...
